The Sterling College Debate & Forensics Team is a competitive communication organization. Students actively compete in intercollegiate speech and debate tournaments both regionally and nationally.

We are members of the National Forensic Association (NFA), the American Forensic Association (AFA), Pi Kappa Delta (PKD) and the National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA), competing in each of the associations' national tournaments. The Sterling Team competes in debate, both parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas style, as well as in three main classifications of individual events: public address, limited preparation and oral interpretation.

We are proud to boast that the debate team has finished in the top 10 in the nation at both the National Forensic Association (NFA) in Lincoln-Douglas Debate (4th in 2015, 6th in 2016, 12th in 2017) and the National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) in Parliamentary Debate (9th in 2011, 12th in 2012). Individually we have had students advance deep into elimination rounds at each national tournament in both debate and forensics, capturing the Top Speaker Award at NFA in Lincoln-Douglas Debate in 2018 and the National Champion in IPDA Debate in 2022.

We welcome any Sterling student interested in joining the team as long as you are willing to work to improve both your skills and the team's competitive standing. We remain committed to educating Sterling students in the rhetorical arts while maintaining a competitive venue for practicing critical thinking!
