The Sterling men’s basketball team fell to Northwood University (FL) 72-75, Thursday night in the first round of the NAIA Div. II Men’s National Tournament.
After scoring 93 points in their opener at the NAIA Division II national tournament the Sterling College Lady Warriors struggled offensively in their second round game versus Northwestern College (IA) and had no answer for NWC guards Becca Hurley (24 points) and Kami Kuhlmann (22 points) who combined for 64% of the Red Raiders 72 points in the contest. The victory was Northwestern’s seventh straight victory at the NAIA Division II national tournament.
STERLING, Kans., -- Sterling College senior, Jonathan Woods, received NAIA All-American honors following the 2008-2009 season to complete several honors earned by Woods during his final season at SC.
The Sterling College Business Department will open a Quiznos restaurant on Monday, March 30. However, this isn't your regular franchise opening. It is a unique partnership between the Sterling College Business Department and Quiznos as a hands-on teaching experience for business majors.
The Sterling College Theatre Department is putting on its annual night of one-act plays at 8pm on Friday, April 3, in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus. The one-act plays are directed by members of the SC directing class. The one acts include "The Man in the Bowler Hat" by A.A. Milne, directed by Sara Kanary, "The Family Jewels" by Andy Gregg, directed by Mandy Nichols, and "Hard Candy" by Jonathan Rand, directed by Mike Love.
Sterling College forensics team member Jana Miller competed at the Pi Kappa Delta National Forensics Tournament with twelve other SC students this past weekend, and with them achieved the honor of a top ten team finish. Individually, Miller was also named a First Team All-American, one of only ten competitors to receive this honor.
Sterling College Senior Erin Thiessen is currently displaying her senior art show in the Sterling College Art Gallery at the corner of 8th and Washington from March 31 – April 9. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thiessen, of Wichita, daughter of Ken and Marchel Thiessen, is displaying photography, ceramics, computer graphics, and paintings.
Sterling College’s forensics team returns from the National Pi Kappa Delta Tournament with a national champion, several elimination-round advancements, and a top-ten finish for the team.
The Sterling College Music Department will present two spring instrumental concerts.
On Monday, April 13, the Sterling College/Community Band will perform at 7:00 pm in Upper Wilson. The program will include the works of Sammy Nestico, Robert Foster, Frank Ticheli, Jan Van der Roost, and Steven Reineke.
On Sunday, April 19, the Small Ensemble Concert, including the SC Flute Choir, the Saxophone Ensemble, and the SC Stage Band, will begin at 3:00 pm in Upper Wilson. Both concerts and free and open to the public.
