This week the Sterling College Missions Department is sending out an additional 50 plus students and seven faculty around the world. This is the second wave of students to leave the college on short-term mission trips.
Caleb Watney, 2012 graduate of Sterling High School, teamed up with Sterling College to help the World Community Grid research cures for cancer, discover cheaper water filtration systems, find new materials for the next generation of solar cells and other scientific research projects with the click of a mouse.
The 2012 recipients of Sterling College’s highest alumni award, the Distinguished Service Award, devoted their lives to serving in the field of education. Harold ’58 and Pat (Offerle ’60) Hood were recognized for their service at Sterling’s commencement ceremony held on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
Sterling College has learned that Rep. Bob Bethell died in a car accident Sunday, May 20, 2012. Bob served as our 113th district representative since 1999. Bob also served Sterling College as a member of our national advisory board for many years and also worked as our director of admission and enrollment development in the early ’80s.
The Sterling College Board of Trustees has elected not to renew the contract of Dr. Paul J. Maurer as President of Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas, effective May 13, 2012.
Senior Associate Professors of Theatre Arts Diane DeFranco-Kling and Gordon Kling were conferred the rank of Faculty Emeritus during the College’s commencement exercises on Saturday, May 12.
Dr. Brad Nix, associate professor of music, was awarded the 2011-2012 McCreery Teaching Award at Sterling College’s 120th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 12.
Caitlin Magee of San Leandro, Calif., and Cuyler Prichard of Aurora, Colo., were named Outstanding Students and received the 2012 Fran Jabara Leadership Award.
This summer Sterling College is sending out 13 teams around the world. The groups will be serving in various forms including food distribution, Vacation Bible School, and street evangelism.
Due to the possibility of inclement weather on Saturday morning, the 2012 Commencement Ceremony has been moved indoors to Gleason Gymnasium on the Sterling College campus. The event will begin at 9:45 a.m. as planned.
